
Staging a production may seem a daunting task, but the benefits to students’ confidence and discovering hidden talents, makes the process so worthwhile.
Options for assistance:
Professional Learning Day:
An entire day dedicated to learning the process of staging a production from: choosing a production, planning time line, audition process, props and costumes, how to involve the entire school community, learning lines, songs and choreography, booking venues and advertising.
Cost: Full Day (hrs x $180 per hour)
In school assistance:
It is possible to stage a musical production within a term.
Elaine has assisted schools in staging productions by following a production plan as outlined below.
Production Plan:
Pre Production:
– 2-3 school weeks prior to new term, production is chosen.
– Elaine meets with all staff to discuss timeframe, expectations and requirements, forming a production committee.
– play is introduced to students, outlining characters and songs.
– students learn about the audition production, how to prepare and audition.
– students audition before end of term, roles allocated, ready to begin rehearsals in the new term.
Rehearsals (10 – 11 weeks)
Elaine can spend one or more days a week working with students, learning stagecraft, lines, songs and choreography. (Class teachers to be present for all sessions. Teachers’ responsibility to rehearse during the week to be prepared for the next week’s session.)
Example Time Table:
Morning Session:
Rehearsal with leads and main cast.
Middle Session:
Rehearsal for songs and dances with other classes.
Afternoon Session:
Whole school singing & dance practise.
(Closer to production week Elaine will increase rehearsals days to adapt to performance venue and to fine tune stage transitions, sound and lighting. )
Production Week: rehearsal times will be negotiated with school.
Production day(s) includes dress rehearsal and evening production(s)
